I'm on my 3rd landing plate. First two cracked at the landing gear intersection.
The new 3rd plate is now reinforced with a metal bar across the landing gear. The four bolts go through the bar, then the gear, then the plate's blind threads.
I also rebuilt and reinforced where the fuse and landing plate meet. Used triangular balsa stock and epoxy.
As a beginning pilot (the V60 is my 2nd plane), I was clearly rough on landings. Also contributing to the harsh treatment was the Fox Eagle engine - it just takes too long to break in and, until it is broken in, stops at exactly the worst moments.
Yesterday I enjoyed two tanks of flight. More flying time than the prior two years. What a joy. What a thrill! The plane has had a rough life, but still rewarded me with a glorious day.
